Mulankavil...in North Eastern, Sri Lanka

Mulankavil ... (Latitude. 9.2333333°, Longitude. 80.1333333°) situateted in The North Eastern Province which one of the provinces of Sri Lanka. The province was created in September 1988 by merging the Northern and Eastern provinces.This merger was declared illegal by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2006. The province was formally demerged into the Northern and Eastern provinces on 1 January 2007. The capital of the province was Trincomalee. Eastern province has an area of 9,996 square kilometers (3,859.5 sq mi).The province is surrounded by the Northern Province to the north, the Bay of Bengal to the east, the Southern Province to the south, and the Uva, Central and North Central provinces to the west. The province's coast is dominated by lagoons, the largest being Batticaloa Lagoon, Kokkilai lagoon, Upaar Lagoon and Ullackalie Lagoon.

City of Mulankavil directly faced to the Sri Lankan Civil War which Beginning on July 23, 1983, there was an on-and-off insurgency against the government by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(the LTTE, also known as the Tamil Tigers), a separatist militant organization which fought to create an independent state named Tamil Eelam in the north and the east of the island. After a 30 year long military campaign, the Sri Lankan military defeated the Tamil Tigers in May 2009.But for over 25 years, the insurgency caused significant hardships for the population, environment and the economy of the country.

Now the civilians focused to rebuild their lives again under goverment costructions.
